Roofing Company Eastern Suburbs

What separates roofing in the Eastern Suburbs from the rest of Sydney is salt. Homes through Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Clovelly and Coogee sit close enough to breaking surf that ordinary roofing steel does not last. BlueScope recommends standard COLORBOND steel for roofs more than 200 metres from breaking surf, COLORBOND Ultra from 100 metres, and stainless closer than that. Use the wrong grade, or the wrong fasteners, and you will be back on the roof within a few years.

We work across Waverley, Woollahra and Randwick, on everything from clifftop moderns and Art Deco walk-ups to Federation homes and the terraces inside the area’s heritage conservation areas. Every quote states the material grade for that street’s exposure rather than a one-size-fits-all product.

Roofing Services We Offer

Roof Repairs

Coastal roofs fail from the fixings out. The repairs we are called to most across the Eastern Suburbs are rusted valleys and gutter beads, corroded fasteners weeping rust stains down the sheeting, terracotta pointing eroded by salt-laden wind, and flashings lifted by onshore gusts on exposed clifftop blocks. We replace like for like in the correct corrosion grade, with Class 4 or stainless fixings where the exposure warrants it, rather than patching over a problem that returns with the next southerly.

Roof Replacement

A re-roof out here is a material specification decision before it is a colour decision. We work out your distance from breaking surf and the direction of the prevailing salt-carrying wind, then specify accordingly: COLORBOND Ultra on the closer streets, standard COLORBOND further back, stainless where the position is genuinely severe. Tile remains the right answer on many Federation and Inter-War homes, and in the Paddington and Woollahra conservation areas the roof form and material are part of what is protected. We manage removal, disposal and compliant installation either way.

Roof Maintenance

Salt does not take a season off. The maintenance that matters here is washing salt deposits off sheeting and gutters, checking fasteners and valley laps for early corrosion, clearing wind-blown sand and leaf build-up, and repointing ridge capping before wind gets under it. The fastest-corroding areas are the ones rain never rinses, under an eave or behind a parapet, and those are the first places we check.

New Roof Projects

New builds, second storeys and rear additions across the Eastern Suburbs need their roofing specified for the site rather than the plan. We work alongside your builder from framing to finish, set sarking and fixing density for coastal wind exposure, and detail the junction between new and existing roofing so it does not become the leak. Every stage goes in to Australian Standards and to the corrosion grade the address actually requires.

Roof Inspection & Reports

Buying near the coast? A roof that looks fine from the street can be a few years from full replacement if it was sheeted in the wrong grade. Our reports assess material grade against the property's exposure, check fastener and valley condition, look for salt pitting in the places rain does not reach, and give you photographs, condition ratings and a realistic remaining life. Strata committees on the Art Deco blocks around Bondi and Coogee use the same report for capital works planning.

Gutters & Downpipes

Gutters corrode before roofs do out here. They hold water, sand and salt, and they are usually the first thing to go. We replace rusted gutters and downpipes in the right corrosion grade, size the system for the roof catchment, and fit leaf and sand guard where wind-blown debris is the recurring issue. Where the original system was undersized, we say so rather than putting the same problem back up.

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Roofing Contractor

Expert Workmanship

Coastal roofing is a materials-knowledge trade as much as a hands-on one. Knowing that the wrong fastener in contact with the wrong sheeting creates a problem of its own, or which flashing detail survives an onshore gale on a clifftop, comes from working these streets. Our roofers specify and install for the exposure in front of them, and explain the reasoning so you know what you are paying for.

Safety First

Exposed coastal roofs carry their own risks: sustained onshore wind, steep-pitched Federation roofs, and older tile that is brittle underfoot. Every job is set up with proper edge protection and anchor points, and we do not put a crew on a roof in unsafe wind. Our team holds working-at-heights certification, and we carry full public liability and workers compensation cover.

Access to Quality Materials

We source the full COLORBOND range including Ultra, marine-grade fasteners and flashings, and matching terracotta profiles for the area's Federation and Inter-War homes. Because we buy these products constantly for coastal work, we can get the correct grade quickly instead of substituting whatever is on the shelf, which is how a lot of Eastern Suburbs roofs end up underspecified in the first place.

Time & Cost Efficiency

Specifying the cheaper steel on a Bondi or Bronte roof saves a few hundred dollars and costs you a second re-roof. The same applies to fasteners: they are a small fraction of the job and the most common reason a coastal roof fails early. We quote the grade the exposure actually needs and show you the distance-from-surf reasoning behind it, so the decision is yours with the facts in front of you.

How We Help

Residential Roofing

From full re-roofs on clifftop homes to tile repairs on a Randwick semi, we cover the range of housing across the Eastern Suburbs. Terracotta and concrete tile work, COLORBOND and Ultra metal roofing, gutter and downpipe replacement, and the flashing and corrosion repairs coastal roofs need far more often than inland ones. Fixed pricing, and a clear scope before we start.

Commercial Roofing

Shops along Bondi Road and Coogee Bay Road, offices around Bondi Junction, and strata blocks throughout the east. We schedule around trading hours and residents, handle access and compliance on occupied buildings, and specify materials that survive the coastal environment rather than needing replacement inside a decade. Staged pricing and documentation for strata committees.

Emergency Roof Repair

Southerly busters and east coast lows do real damage to exposed coastal roofs: lifted sheeting, dislodged ridge capping, gutters torn off in a gust. We respond quickly across the Eastern Suburbs, make the roof safe, install temporary weatherproofing to stop water entering, and return for a permanent repair. We photograph everything we find, which makes the insurance claim considerably easier.

Types of Roofing We Work With

Tile Roofing

Terracotta and concrete tile still cover a large share of Federation and Inter-War homes through Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra. Salt-laden wind erodes bedding and pointing faster here than inland, so ridge and hip capping needs attention sooner. We rebed and repoint capping with flexible pointing, replace cracked and slipped tiles matched for profile and colour, and source period terracotta where the property sits in a conservation area.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing performs very well by the coast, provided the grade matches the exposure. We install COLORBOND Ultra as standard on the closer coastal streets and stainless where the position is genuinely severe, with fasteners and flashings in a matched corrosion class. Lightweight, non-combustible and low-maintenance, a correctly specified metal roof will outlast a badly specified one by decades on the same street.

Flat & Low-Slope Roofing

Flat and low-slope roofing shows up on the area's Art Deco blocks, modern clifftop homes and rear additions. These roofs cop full sun and salt at once, which is hard on membranes and harder still on a coating applied over a system that was never draining properly. We install and repair membrane roofing with genuine falls and a designed drainage path, and detail upstands, skylights and penetrations so the weak points hold.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I know if my roof needs repairs or a full replacement?

Signs like leaks, sagging, missing tiles, or water stains often indicate the need for repair. However, if your roof is over 20 years old or has widespread damage, a full replacement may be more cost-effective.

Yes, we are fully licensed and insured, giving you confidence that all work is carried out to Australian standards and safety regulations. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality roofing services.

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and the materials used. Most residential roof replacements take between 2 to 5 days. We’ll provide a clear timeline before the work begins.

Absolutely. We stand by the quality of our materials and workmanship. All our roofing work comes with a workmanship guarantee, and we use materials that are backed by manufacturer warranties.
