Lapstone is the first step of the climb, perched above the Nepean on steep, heavily treed blocks against the bushland of the Glenbrook gorge. That position puts most of it on bush fire prone land, where roofing work must meet AS 3959 at the assessed attack level. Homes here are lost to embers finding a gap, not to the fire front itself.
The gaps sit on the roof: ridge and hip lines, valleys, eaves, vents, skylights and, most of all, the gutters. We work across the mountains and build each Lapstone roof to the BAL its assessment sets, not to a generic spec.
On Lapstone's steep, gorge-side blocks, valleys clog with bark and rust through, so valley replacement leads the repairs, with cracked capping and wind-lifted ridge tiles beside it. The second kind is a compliance gap, sealing opened by a later penetration. We fix the leak and, on mapped land, rebuild the ember protection.
A Lapstone re-roof follows its BAL. BAL-29: non-combustible covering, sarking, all gaps over 2 mm sealed. BAL-40: fire-rated sarking, sub-2 mm metal mesh, rated penetrations. BAL-FZ: tested systems only. We confirm the level and quote and install to it, removal and disposal included.
With bushland on the doorstep, Lapstone gutters pack with dry eucalypt leaf and bark, and mesh over a full gutter is just fuel at the eaves. Maintenance here is fire prevention: we clear gutters and valleys, confirm mesh and sealing are intact, and repoint capping before each fire season.
Rebuilds, extensions and studios around Lapstone get their bushfire detailing from the frame, because sarking, sealing, penetrations and gutter mesh resist retrofitting. We align with your builder and the bushfire report so the roof passes inspection first time.
A Lapstone report keeps condition and compliance apart: tile, sheeting, valley and capping life on one hand; sarking, sealing, vent and penetration protection and mesh against the BAL on the other. Photographs, ratings and a pre-fire-season to-do list.
The gutter is the key bushfire part on a Lapstone roof and the most ignored. AS 3959 wants non-combustible metal mesh, sub-2 mm at higher levels, not plastic that melts. We fit compliant mesh, renew rusted gutters and downpipes, correct falls, and make the run easy to reach so it stays clear.
Bushfire-compliant roofing is detail work. A 3 mm gap at a ridge, a plastic vent cowl, an unrated skylight or mesh of the wrong aperture each undo an otherwise compliant Lapstone roof. We install to what AS 3959 requires at each level and can explain which requirement drove which line in the quote.
Steep bush blocks, long driveways, sloping sites and brittle older tile make Lapstone roofs demanding to work on safely. Access is assessed before we quote, and every job runs with edge protection and anchor points for the pitch. Our crew is working-at-heights certified and fully insured.
Compliant bushfire roofing needs specific products. For Lapstone we source AS 3959 non-combustible metal gutter and valley mesh, sarking with the required flammability index, fire-rated sealants, rated penetration and skylight systems, and the full Colorbond range, so compliance is straightforward rather than a string of substitutions.
The cheapest Lapstone roofing decision is keeping the gutters clear; the most expensive is a non-compliant detail nobody noticed. Plastic guard is cheaper than metal mesh until the moment it matters, and deferred valley replacement costs several times a clean-out. We tell you plainly what is compliance, what is maintenance, and what can wait.
Gorge-side cottages and treed-block family homes across Lapstone. Tile repairs, rebedding and repointing, valley renewal, re-roofs in tile or Colorbond, gutter replacement, and bushfire roof-and-gutter systems to the assessed BAL. Written scope and fixed pricing first.
The schools, halls and small commercial buildings around Lapstone and neighbouring Glenbrook. We schedule around occupancy, manage occupied-site access, and on mapped land specify roofing and gutter protection to the attack level, with committee documentation.
A storm over Lapstone drops limbs, and a limb through brittle tile opens a house fast. We repair storm, tree and leak damage, complete the permanent fix, put back any bushfire detailing we disturbed, and photograph the lot for your insurer.
Older Lapstone homes run to tile, non-combustible and an asset here when the gaps are closed. Perished bedding or absent sarking at ridges, valleys and eaves lets embers in. We repoint with flexible compound, replace tiles from matched stock, renew valley irons and seal the junctions.
On a bushfire-prone Lapstone block Colorbond is the clean choice: non-combustible, near-gapless, and an easy match for sarking, sealed penetrations and metal mesh. Lighter than tile for a re-roof, and better at shedding gorge-side canopy litter.
Flat and low-slope roofs on Lapstone extensions, carports and studios trap litter under canopy, a drainage and, on mapped land, an ember problem. We lay membrane or low-pitch metal with genuine falls and reachable outlets and seal upstands and penetrations to the assessment.

I have had a fantastic experience with this business from start to finish. They are professional experienced, very fair and reasonable. We needed to replace the roof on our outdoor deck which was slightly tricky. Their advice and suggestions regarding product to use was sage. After a downpour there was a bit of a leak between the main building and the deck roof which they came out to fix which resolved the issue. There have been plenty of downpours since and everything is fine. I would highly recommend this company without hesitation. They are excellent.Posted on Google![]()

Thankyou to TomKat Roofing and particulary Scott who did an excellent job repairing my roof. I had a water stain on the ceiling in one of my rooms, I called TomKat Roofing. They sent out a technician (Tim I think his name was) to have a look at the roof and that was followed by a very clear & comprehensive quote with what work needed to be done. The quote was supported by photos of the roof showing the problem areas. Tim was very polite & knowledgeable. He explained to me what needed to be done as a matter of urgency and what would need to be done for maintenance purpose and he showed me the photos. The price was very reasonable for the work that needed to be done. Scott carried out the repair work. Scott is very pleasant to deal and he knew exactly what he was doing. He worked just about all day to finish the job for me and I was very happy with the results and my roof problems have now been solved. I was very impressed with everyone I dealt with, from the ladies in the office who prepared my quote to Scott who completed the job , they are all very friendly and most of all they know their stuff. I think they're an asset to TomKat. I highly recommend TomKat Roofing and I would definitely use them again.Posted on Google![]()

I contacted the team at TomKat roofing as I noticed a small leak in my daughters room during the recent storms and I was pleasantly greeted over the phone by the admin team who took down all my details and soon after I had the scheduling team call and arrange a suitable time to come out and review my concerns. The team promptly identified what the issue was and fixed it promptly. I can’t thank the team enough and whilst I hope I never need to call them again due to a roof issue, I would gladly recommend them to anyone looking for professional workmanship.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Tomkat Roofing for an efficient, well priced and solid quality roof replacement. My old, droopy and leaking terracotta tile roof is now straight and strong with a reinforced structure, new corrugated colorbond roof, gutters, facias, downpipes and leaf guard. Some of the key positive experiences I had with Tomkat Roofing are: The efficient and friendly office staff always responded quickly and kept me informed of the progress and when the tradesmen would be onsite. At the start of the job, within a single work day, they had a team of roofers and carpenters to get the old tiles off, the roof structure repaired/reinforced and the colorbond sheets with insulation secured so that my home was protected from the weather. Fortunately the weather was clear for a few days, but it was reassuring to know that they were prepared to work incredibly fast in the summer sun to keep my home safe. The site supervisors were always friendly and took the time to explain everything to me and respond to any concerns or questions I had about the job. Being an older build home, I had a few items that needed particular attention and everything was completed to my satisfaction. A word of advice for home owners looking to get a roof replaced with Tomkat Roofing: Raise as many of your objectives and concerns as you can as early as possible. I found the Tomkat team very responsive to my overthinking mind and everything I wanted to get done was outlined in the quote and addressed during the job. Also, they do tidy up and take away all the waste building material during and at the end of the job, which is great. But be prepared each evening to clean up smaller items that take time to find, like random screws or nails that were dropped, if you have children or pets accessing the area around your home in the evenings. It is unreasonable to expect the workers to find every dropped item each day if you also want the job done quickly.
Tomkat Roofing has spent over twenty years on roofs across Sydney and the Blue Mountains, including bushfire-prone properties in Lapstone where the roof detailing is what stands between a house and an ember shower. We are a licensed, insured team and winners of the 2024 and 2025 Australian Small Business Champion Awards in the roofer category.
Every job starts with a proper inspection and ends with a written scope and fixed pricing. Where a requirement comes from AS 3959 rather than from us, we say so and point to the clause it comes from.
Signs like leaks, sagging, missing tiles, or water stains often indicate the need for repair. However, if your roof is over 20 years old or has widespread damage, a full replacement may be more cost-effective.
Yes, we are fully licensed and insured, giving you confidence that all work is carried out to Australian standards and safety regulations. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality roofing services.
The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and the materials used. Most residential roof replacements take between 2 to 5 days. We’ll provide a clear timeline before the work begins.
Absolutely. We stand by the quality of our materials and workmanship. All our roofing work comes with a workmanship guarantee, and we use materials that are backed by manufacturer warranties.
