Roofing Company Kurraba Point

Roofing in Kurraba Point is shaped by heritage and the harbour. A small, exclusive harbourside peninsula in Neutral Bay with grand waterfront homes, period houses and apartment blocks on steep blocks. The stock runs from Federation and interwar homes and the occasional terrace to grand waterfront houses and apartment blocks, with heritage conservation controls across much of it. Many roofs drain through concealed box gutters and sit on steep blocks, and right on the water salt air and strong winds are hard on flashings and fixings.

We work on homes, terraces, apartments and strata throughout Kurraba Point, with written scope, fixed pricing and access planned before we quote.

Roofing Services We Offer

Roof Repairs

The common Kurraba Point leaks are a concealed box gutter that has filled and rusted or backed up, a failed parapet or chimney flashing, cracked pointing on a hip, or a salt-corroded valley. On apartment blocks it is a failed membrane lap or a perished seal at a penetration. We trace the water path under the tiles or across the membrane, fix the cause, and test the repair before we leave.

Roof Replacement

In a Kurraba Point conservation area, replacement means matching the original: period terracotta or slate with ridge and eaves detailing kept intact, and the documentation a heritage officer will want. On apartment and contemporary roofs we re-roof in membrane or Colorbond. We handle removal, disposal and compliant installation, and bring box gutters and overflows up to code.

Roof Maintenance

Concealed box gutters and salt exposure are why Kurraba Point roofs need scheduled attention. Our visits clear gutters, valleys, sumps and rainheads, check overflows, reseal penetrations and flashings, treat moss on shaded planes, and flag lifting slates, corroding valleys or membrane wear while it is still a small repair.

New Roof Projects

Second storeys, rear additions, rooftop decks and apartment fitouts are common across Kurraba Point, often on steep harbour-facing blocks with difficult access. We work with your builder from framing to finish, match new roofing to the original in conservation areas, and detail the junction between old and new so it does not become the first leak. Access and craneage are worked out before we start.

Roof Inspection & Reports

A century-old Kurraba Point roof, or an ageing apartment membrane, can have years left or be a season from failing, and you cannot tell from the street. Our reports assess tile, slate or membrane condition, box gutter and flashing corrosion, capping and penetration seals, with photographs, condition ratings and a clear split between urgent and planned works.

Gutters & Downpipes

Drainage in Kurraba Point is often concealed, with box gutters, sumps and rainheads inside the envelope, and salt air shortens the metal. We renew gutter soles and sumps in corrosion-resistant Colorbond, size the system to the catchment, and make sure a working overflow spills outside. On homes we renew gutters and fit leaf guard where trees warrant it.

Benefits of Hiring a Professional Roofing Contractor

Expert Workmanship

Brittle century-old tile cracks underfoot, a lead apron has to be dressed into a parapet, and a box gutter overflow has to be set out right. We work this stock constantly and get the detailing right.

Safety First

Steep harbourside blocks, brittle heritage tile and tall apartment buildings make these roofs demanding to work on safely. Every job has edge protection and anchor points. Our crew is certified and fully insured.

Access to Quality Materials

Matching a Federation roof means having somewhere to get the tiles. We source salvaged terracotta, slate, reinforced membranes and Colorbond through trade supply, rated for a salt-air environment.

Time & Cost Efficiency

The cheapest thing you can do is check the box gutter before it rusts through or backs up, since a failed concealed gutter damages ceilings across a home or into other units. We are straight about what is urgent.

How We Help

Residential Roofing

Federation and interwar homes, terraces, grand waterfront houses and apartment strata across Kurraba Point. Terracotta and slate repairs, box gutter renewal, rebedding and repointing, membrane repairs, full re-roofs in tile, membrane or Colorbond, gutter renewal and flashing work. We match materials properly on heritage properties, with a written scope and fixed pricing.

Commercial Roofing

Offices, medical suites, schools and strata buildings across Kurraba Point and the lower North Shore. We schedule around occupancy, manage access and compliance on buildings that stay open, and work with the membrane, metal and concealed drainage systems these roofs use, with staged pricing and the documentation strata committees need.

Storm Damage Roof Repair

Harbour storms drive rain into every tired flashing and backed-up box gutter in Kurraba Point, and can lift sheeting or bring a branch down on brittle terracotta. We repair storm damage, leaks and failed drainage, then complete permanent repairs, photographing everything as we go to make the insurance and strata conversations simpler.

Types of Roofing We Work With

Tile Roofing

Terracotta is common across the older Kurraba Point streets, much of it Marseille pattern and still serviceable if looked after. We replace cracked and slipped tiles with matched profiles, rebed and repoint ridge and hip capping with flexible pointing, replace rusted valley irons, and treat the moss that shaded, salt-damp planes attract.

Metal Roofing

Colorbond suits Kurraba Point additions, apartment rooftops, plant rooms and contemporary homes, and in this salt-air setting it is the fixings, flashings and fall that decide how long it lasts. We install and repair it with marine-grade fixings and flashings detailed properly, and in a conservation area we tell you honestly whether metal will get approval first.

Flat & Low-Slope Roofing

Flat and low-slope roofs are common in Kurraba Point, on apartment rooftops, podiums, rear additions and balconies and decks over living space. These need a membrane with genuine falls and a designed drainage path, not a coating over a slab. We install and repair membrane roofing, keep outlets accessible, and detail upstands, penetrations and skylights so they do not become the weak point.

I have had a fantastic experience with this business from start to finish. They are professional experienced, very fair and reasonable. We needed to replace the roof on our outdoor deck which was slightly tricky. Their advice and suggestions regarding product to use was sage. After a downpour there was a bit of a leak between the main building and the deck roof which they came out to fix which resolved the issue. There have been plenty of downpours since and everything is fine. I would highly recommend this company without hesitation. They are excellent.

Thankyou to TomKat Roofing and particulary Scott who did an excellent job repairing my roof. I had a water stain on the ceiling in one of my rooms, I called TomKat Roofing. They sent out a technician (Tim I think his name was) to have a look at the roof and that was followed by a very clear & comprehensive quote with what work needed to be done. The quote was supported by photos of the roof showing the problem areas. Tim was very polite & knowledgeable. He explained to me what needed to be done as a matter of urgency and what would need to be done for maintenance purpose and he showed me the photos. The price was very reasonable for the work that needed to be done. Scott carried out the repair work. Scott is very pleasant to deal and he knew exactly what he was doing. He worked just about all day to finish the job for me and I was very happy with the results and my roof problems have now been solved. I was very impressed with everyone I dealt with, from the ladies in the office who prepared my quote to Scott who completed the job , they are all very friendly and most of all they know their stuff. I think they're an asset to TomKat. I highly recommend TomKat Roofing and I would definitely use them again.

I contacted the team at TomKat roofing as I noticed a small leak in my daughters room during the recent storms and I was pleasantly greeted over the phone by the admin team who took down all my details and soon after I had the scheduling team call and arrange a suitable time to come out and review my concerns. The team promptly identified what the issue was and fixed it promptly. I can’t thank the team enough and whilst I hope I never need to call them again due to a roof issue, I would gladly recommend them to anyone looking for professional workmanship.

I highly recommend Tomkat Roofing for an efficient, well priced and solid quality roof replacement. My old, droopy and leaking terracotta tile roof is now straight and strong with a reinforced structure, new corrugated colorbond roof, gutters, facias, downpipes and leaf guard. Some of the key positive experiences I had with Tomkat Roofing are: The efficient and friendly office staff always responded quickly and kept me informed of the progress and when the tradesmen would be onsite. At the start of the job, within a single work day, they had a team of roofers and carpenters to get the old tiles off, the roof structure repaired/reinforced and the colorbond sheets with insulation secured so that my home was protected from the weather. Fortunately the weather was clear for a few days, but it was reassuring to know that they were prepared to work incredibly fast in the summer sun to keep my home safe. The site supervisors were always friendly and took the time to explain everything to me and respond to any concerns or questions I had about the job. Being an older build home, I had a few items that needed particular attention and everything was completed to my satisfaction. A word of advice for home owners looking to get a roof replaced with Tomkat Roofing: Raise as many of your objectives and concerns as you can as early as possible. I found the Tomkat team very responsive to my overthinking mind and everything I wanted to get done was outlined in the quote and addressed during the job. Also, they do tidy up and take away all the waste building material during and at the end of the job, which is great. But be prepared each evening to clean up smaller items that take time to find, like random screws or nails that were dropped, if you have children or pets accessing the area around your home in the evenings. It is unreasonable to expect the workers to find every dropped item each day if you also want the job done quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I know if my roof needs repairs or a full replacement?

Signs like leaks, sagging, missing tiles, or water stains often indicate the need for repair. However, if your roof is over 20 years old or has widespread damage, a full replacement may be more cost-effective.

Yes, we are fully licensed and insured, giving you confidence that all work is carried out to Australian standards and safety regulations. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality roofing services.

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and the materials used. Most residential roof replacements take between 2 to 5 days. We’ll provide a clear timeline before the work begins.
